An Amsterdam cook on the Access to Seeds Index:
“All around the world seeds are used as food and prepared in all possible ways (…). That seeds are the start of new life, is something that never really crosses my mind when I eat a plate of rice or scrabble from a bowl of peanuts. At the moment I am traveling through Zimbabwe, where smallholder farmers are eagerly looking for solutions to tackle climate change and food shortages.
Last week the Access to Seeds Index was heralded with great fanfare, a list that indicates how seed companies contribute to access to quality seeds for smallholder farmers.
Yesterday I visited here one of many field schools OxfamNovib has founded with the Dutch National Postcode Lottery. One farmer told me his greatest wish for the future: access to seeds and the knowledge to grow crops that are resistent against climate changes. Seed is more than just popping tasty, it is also the future of our food”.
