It also performs moderately well in Research & Development, thanks to breeding activities in several index countries and programs to improve varieties suited to the needs of smallholder farmers. Its extensive distribution channels in Asia are highlighted in Marketing & Sales. However, a lack of access to seeds strategies and poor transparency means low scores in Capacity Building, Genetic Resources and Governance & Strategy.

Although Takii scores moderately better than in 2016, it is encouraged to further disclose its policies and activities related to access to seeds for smallholder farmers in index regions.
In 2017, Takii announced plans to expand its sales activities in Africa and the Middle East through its European subsidiary, based in the Netherlands. For these regions, the company has invested in specially developed packaging for canned seed.
The company has ISO 9001 and International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) accreditations, certifying its quality processes.
