Inspired by the Access to Medicine Index, the Dutch government sees great potential in developing indexes for other industries, linking them to global issues. In its policy brief ‘Corporate Social Responsibility Pays’, released 28 June, the Dutch government named industry indexes as one of its instruments in creating transparancy and dialogue. Societal, investor and reputational pressures can then lead to a mechanism of positive competition within the seed industry, the so-called ‘race to the top’.
